Demolition Begins on derelict shop as regeneration project begins

Demolition work has begun on a long-derelict former factory shop on Ellis Street, Kirkby, as part of Ashfield District Council’s wider push to revitalise the town centre.

The council purchased the crumbling building earlier this year with the intention of replacing it with a modern apartment complex featuring flexible ground-floor commercial space. Officials say the development will provide high-quality town-centre living while boosting footfall for nearby businesses.
