Full Met Office forecast as yellow weather warning announced
Met office forecasters warn snow could fall across Ashfield throughout Thursday, February 8.
A yellow weather warning for snow was in place from 6am today through to 6am on Friday, February 9. An amber weather warning is in place just over the border in Derbyshire.
In its forecast for Thursday, the Met Office has predicted heavy snow to fall from 9am through to 4pm. This will be downgraded to light snow by 5pm and sleet by 6pm. Rain is then forecast to fall for the rest of the day.
Moving into Friday, a yellow weather warning for snow remains in place, although the current forecast suggests this is not expected to fall in our area.
In its warning for snow, a Met Office spokesperson said: "There is a chance that some rural communities could become cut off
"There is a chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected
"There is a chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel."
CCTV released after pub fire
Police have released images of a man they want to talk to over a suspected arson attack at the Blue Bell Inn.
The emergency services were called to the venue in Mansfield Road, Sutton-in-Ashfield, just before 2.50pm on Wednesday, January 3, following reports of a fire.
The building, which had been empty for some time, was badly damaged in the blaze but no injuries were reported.
A subsequent investigation by Nottinghamshire Police detectives and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service determined the fire had been started deliberately.
Police have now released an image of a man they would like to speak to in relation to the incident.
Detective Sergeant Matt Scott said: “We are aware of the concern this incident has caused in the community and have been working hard to understand exactly what happened in the moments before and after the fire.
“After reviewing a very large amount of CCTV footage we would like to speak to the man pictured in these images as we believe he may be able to assist with our investigation.
“Whilst the footage of him is not very clear, we believe he will be recognisable to anyone who know him and we aske them to get in touch.”
Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident 376 of 3 January 2024, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Dog grooming parlour plans
Plans have been announced to create a dog grooming parlour in a Nottinghamshire village.
If approved, the parlour would be created in a detached outbuilding in Common Road, Huthwaite.
In addition to the plans, submitted to Ashfield District Council, approval is also being sought for a two-storey side and single-storey rear extension at 50 Common Road.
Fire station appeal for support
Ashfield Fire Station is appealing for support as it looks to revitalise its pond and wooded area.
The service wants to turn the site into an area where it can invite schools and other community groups to visit and learn about water safety, fire setting in the woods and home fire safety.
Firefighters have already started clearing the area in their own time but require building materials and some small tools.
Staff are asking if any Building Material Suppliers or members of the public could donate any of the following to get this project up and running:
20mm Hardcore
Treated Railway sleepers
Treated 6x6 timber posts
Treated 4x4 timber posts
