Estate named for fallen soldier
The mum of a “kind and generous” soldier killed in action in Afghanistan has visited a new housing site named in his honour.
Diane Sheldon visited the site in Central Avenue, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, which will be named Adrian Sheldon View in honour of the soldier.
Rifleman Sheldon was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2009.
Central Avenue is near to where Rifleman Sheldon attended school and grew up.
It is also close to the Cenotaph which bears his name and Kingsway Cemetery which is his final resting place.
The council is building 16 new properties on the site. It will include two and three-bedroom houses, with the work likely to be completed by autumn 2026
Mrs Sheldon said: “It’s a great honour and something for our family to be proud of. It keeps Adrian’s memory alive.”
