Pub ‘falls foul’ to fake banknotes
A Nottinghamshire pub has issued a warning to other businesses after counterfeit £20 notes were used in the venue.
A number of incidents have been reported in recent weeks and Leicestershire Police issued a warning in January, urging businesses to be on the lookout.
The Green Dragon in Hucknall confirmed in an online post the fake notes had been used in the Watnall Road bar.
A spokesperson said: “Unfortunately We have fallen foul of the fake £20 notes that are doing the rounds.
“Please make your small business friends aware.”
The spokesperson added they were able to tell they were fake as they had been poorly cut, contained no braille on the top left of the note and they glowed up under UV light.
124-home development rejection overturned
More than 100 homes can be built on land in a Nottinghamshire village after the Planning Inspectorate reversed an Ashfield District Council planing decision.
Persimmon Homes first submitted plans to create 124 homes off Fackley Road in Teversal in 2022.
The development was for a mix of two-, three- and four-bredroom properties but it was rejected by the council in December 2023 amid concerns over flooding and road safety.
The developers appealed the decision and it went to the Planning Inspectorate, which decided the project could go ahead.
‘Stay alert’ warning as police investigate village incidents
Police are urging the public to remain vigilant following an attempted robbery and a second suspicious incident on the same street in Annesley Woodhouse.
At approximately 11.27pm on 1 February, a woman in her 50s was walking home from work when a man, wearing a hood and riding a bike, approached her and attempted to snatch her handbag.
