Town rises up against plans for homes on beauty spot
Dozens of people have made their voices heard amid fresh plans to build homes on a cherished parcel of land.
New proposals were announced in July to create 100 properties on land known locally as Misk Hills in Hucknall
The development for the site off Common Lane, submitted by Aldergate Property Group, was originally planned for 130 homes, but this has been reduced to 100.
The proposal was met with strong opposition when it was first submitted to Ashfield District Council, but this has grown in recent weeks.
Dozens of objections have now been put forward for the project, with many saying it will be “detrimental” to the town and lead to a loss of land that has been enjoyed by generations.
One opponent said: “More houses are not needed in Hucknall, these will only add to already congested roads.
“The Misk hills are a much treasured green area enjoyed by walkers.
“It is already difficult enough to see a GP. Adding yet more people to our population will only add to the problem.”
Another, citing the area’s historical significance, said: “Misk Hills is an area of local historical importance, as it was written about by Byron in one of his poems.
