’Nightmare’ roadworks coming to an end
Roadworks along a busy section of the A611 are set to be completed by December 7, it has been announced.
Ashfield Independents councillors at Nottinghamshire County Council made the announcement following a meeting with contractors and the county council's highways team.
The Watnall Road works, which have been causing disruption in Hucknall since July, are now nearing the end after a series of challenges.
Councillor Lee Waters, who represents Hucknall South, confirmed contractors had doubled the number of work crews, which has helped bring forward the completion date.
“The revised schedule means the full resurfacing will take place at night to minimise disruption,” he said.
"Weather permitting, we are on track for completion by the early hours of Saturday, December 7."
The works have been described as a “nightmare” with issues including traffic light phasing and communication breakdowns being raised by residents.
Councillor Dave Shaw, who represents Hucknall West, expressed his gratitude to residents for their patience, saying: “This has been incredibly frustrating for everyone, but we are pleased to see an end in sight.”
